The capital, San Jose, is located within this region and has a rich cultural heritage. There are many attractions within close driving distance from the capital which include Volcano Poas and Volcano Irazu. Volcano Irazu last erupted when JFK visited in 1963. The Central Valley Region is characterized by moderate temperatures and lush verdant mountains.

Just north of San Jose lies one of Costa Rica’s most amazing natural sites which includes Lake Arenal and Volcano Arenal.  This Volcano is currently the most active and puts on quite a show on a clear night. The lake has some incredible fishing and is world renown for its windsurfing.  There are also many thermal springs located in this area which are rumored to have curative powers. The Central Valley Region has a wide variety of properties with an even wider variety of prices depending on location.
