Irazu Volcano has the distinction of being the tallest active volcano in all of Costa Rica. Rising to a very chilly 11,250 feet above sea level, the volcano contains five craters set in this lunar-like landscape that is unlike any other place on earth. The primary crater measures more than 3,450 wide and over 1000 feet deep. The peak of Irazu Volcano is one of the few places in the world where on a clear day you can see both the Paciifc Ocean, as well as, the Caribbean Sea. The Volcano last erupted in 1963 when then president John F. Kennedy was visiting Costa Rica.
