Costa Rica Fishing Tips

Deep-sea fishing has become a staple of the tourism industry for Costa Rica with fishing enthusiasts from all over the globe flocking to both the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea in search of marlin, snook, mahi-mahi, and many other types of species. Costa Rica plays host to several world class fishing tournaments each year. The Pacific Coast offers some amazing opportunities to land huge marlin and sailfish with notable companies like www.crocodilebay.com that offer all-inclusive packages, and are located in the remote Osa Peninsula. Does anyone know the approximate cost in Costa Rica for a 4-5 day sport fishing trip? Not counting flights but rooms, guide, equipment and everything else. Any advice on the best fishing tour companies would be great as well. Want to go with my 2 sons in the next 6 months but we are open to what part of the country we stay in. Thanks-Roger

For the last two years we have gone through Ocotal Resort for our annual fishing trip. It’s a beautiful resort and the crew on the boats are very knowledgeable. The only down side is that they are a little pricey but when it comes to excursions you definitely get what you pay for.

I would like to arrange a fishing excursion however I’m curious of how or if you can get your catch shipped back home. Any insight on this would be helpful.

    Thanks-Jordan

I’ve been going on deep sea fishing excursions for the last six years. Depending on who you go through and where you are vacationing you have limited options on what to do with your catch. First you can have the tour company clean and filet your fish so you can eat it within a few days. Some will even make arrangements to send it to a local restaurant just in case you don’t have kitchen amenities where you are staying. If you’re the type who is looking for a trophy rather than an experience then you better bring your checkbook. Local taxidermists can charge a “fin and a gill” for preserving your catch. Besides unless you’re on a lengthy vacation chances are the finished product will have to be shipped back to your home. Which adds up to costly shipping charges. My advice is if your deep sea fishing adventure is far from your home it’s best to take a picture of your catch and get a nice meal out of it.
