Golfing in Costa Rica
Costa Rica is also emerging onto the international golf scene with some world class courses being built over the last decade including the Robert Trent Jones designed Garra de Leon. The newest courses have been built in the Northern Pacific Region and the Central Pacific Region of the country, and are all located in close proximity to each other making it simple to play several different championship courses in a short period of time. There is a currently a project underway to build the first golf course in the southern Pacific region. Thanks for the info. I played golf at Valle del Sol in Santa Ana (Central Valley) and it was an awesome time. Google “Valle del Sol” for the website. Green fee under a $100 USD and some of the views were amazing. Moutains and Volcanoes in the distance made for a really unique time. Take your camera. People at the club were incredibly nice as well. If anyone knows of any other courses in that price range worth playing, I would appreciate the input. I go back to CR this summer with a buddy and we want to try another course in the Central Valley area.

Most of the courses in the Central valley and even the ones on the Pacific Coast are really reasonable from a green fee standpoint. Here is a good link with most of the courses in CR and their rates http://costa-rica-guide.com/travel/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=345&Itemid=568
I have played most of these and they are all beautiful courses.

Los Suenos is definately my favorite. If you like a challenge it’s a good one to check out.

If you are an amateur or just an average recreational golfer, stay away from Los Suenos. This place is beyond a “challenge”. I had my worst game of 120. I didn’t even have a drop to drink prior or during. Afterwards was a completely different story!

My husband and I just returned from a week in Costa Rica and played two courses there. We played Reserva Conchal at the resort Paradisus Playa Conchal twice and loved it! It’s a hard course but in beautiful condition. The slope on it is high and you have to play your shots smart. The cart girl was out the entire time we played and saw her frequently. Women friendly course with change in distance in tee boxes and restrooms. As a female player, I always look for bathrooms beyond the clubhouse!
We also played golf at Hacienda Pinilla. This course is a links course and part of the Audubon Society and have worked with the designer of the course not to disrupt any of the natural setting of the original landscape. The course hasn’t had much rain so it was very dry. I’m sure when the course gets some rain it will be nicer to play on. It does have two holes that go down to the ocean which is beautiful to see. There wasn’t anyone out on the course to bring drinks or food so all has to be purchased prior to beginning and when making the turn. The course is very women friendly and did have restrooms strategically placed on the course.
