Hotel Review of The Alta Hotel in Escazu

We recently stayed at The Alta Hotel in Escazu, located just twenty minutes from the International Airport in Alajuela.  Escazu is made up of three adjoining neighborhoods with the largest population of Americans living there.  The hotel is nestled in the hills overlooking San Jose, just far enough away from the hustle and bustle, but close enough for the convenience.

We arrived to five star quality service with the English-speaking hotel staff being friendly and efficient.  The hotel is typically constructed of concrete with beautiful archways and native hardwood accents. We were taken to our deluxe room with our own private patio surrounded by tropical gardens.  Within minutes, we were greeted by a waiter with complimentary fruit drinks for us all to enjoy on our gorgeous patio.  We then walked down to a deep blue pool surrounded by plush lounge chairs with a wait staff on hand ready to serve us.  With the perfect weather, the tropical plants with colorful flowers, and the singing birds, a tranquil peace immediately arrived.

The most impressive experience at The Alta Hotel was its restaurant, La Luz.  Rich wood tones, crisp table settings, and large windows with views of the city lights makes this the perfect setting for an intimate dinner.  Our friendly waiter served us with special attention to detail, and this is what we shared:
A French Merlot
Caesar Salad (2 ½ stars)
Chicken Ballotine: Stuffed chicken breast with ham, cheese, and vegetables over Macadamia risotto and sour cream and cilantro sauce (5 stars)
Mocha Custard in Cappuccino Sauce (5 stars)

We will definitely return to The Alta Hotel, especially as our first stop in Costa Rica.

My wife and I are looking for an all inclusive hotel in the San Jose area. We would prefer an adults only resort. Any suggestions?

I went to www.thealtahotel.com . You can check reseration dates and book a room directly through their site.

Check out Expedia.com . Sometimes they offer discounts compared to the resorts direct website. Plus you may be able to save by purchasing your airfare and hotel accommodations from the place.

My husband and I stayed at the Alta a few years ago. It was the perfectly located in Escazu, which is the ritzy section of San Jose. It sits on a hillside with rooms that have spectacular views of the city. We decided to upgrade our room to a Jr. Suite for an extra $30 and it was well worth it! The suite was comfortable and tastefully decorated. Simplicity is the best word to describe this hotel. From the rooms to the cuisine everything is just right.
