The Stone Spheres of Costa Rica were discovered in the 1930's by workers for the United Fruit Company in the southern regions of the country.  The stone spheres were found when workers were clearing the farmland for cultivation. The majority were found by workers as they cleared and burned the jungle for planting. Noticing that the stones were man-made, the workers shoved them aside with tractors. As curiousity sat in, they returned to the stone orbs, and inspired by stories of hidden gold, began to drill into them so that they could blow them up with dynamite. Fortunately, the Costa Rican government soon intervened and put a stop to the destruction of the priceless relics.

The stone spheres remain a mystery with no universally accepted theory as to their origin. If you are in the southern regions of Costa Rica take the time to go see one of these mysterious orbs, and maybe you will be able to unravel the mystery for yourself.
